Carnival concerts September 19-25, 2008

St Luke’s is pleased to offer this series of concerts for your enjoyment among the beautiful displays which form part of Toowoomba’s historic Carnival of Flowers.

There is something for everyone’s taste – solo voice, choirs, organ, piano, harpsichord, and music from the Renaissance to jazz – formal and informal.


SATURDAY 19 SEPTEMBER – 7.30pm
Hayley Sugars – soprano
David Hatch – clarinet
Phillip Gearing – piano

A variety of colourful works, including Schubert’s delightful Shepherd on the Rock.

SUNDAY 20 SEPTEMBER

CARNIVAL CHORAL FESTIVAL 2pm

Toowoomba’s leading choirs present a feast of choral music to sustain the soul, including works for the massed choirs.

MON 22 SEPTEMBER

LUNCHTIME CONCERT – 12.30pm
Bundaberg Youth Orchestra
This fine young ensemble directed by Robert Rotar has an enviable reputation, playing to popular acclaim. They perform a variety of entertaining works for your enjoyment.

TWILIGHT CONCERT – 5.30pm
Renaissance Rubber Band
This flexible ensemble of shawms, crumhorns, sackbutts et al will regale us with the lively rhythms and limpid harmonies of music from the Renaissance.
ADMISSION: $10


TUESDAY 23 SEPTEMBER

LUNCHTIME CONCERT – 12.30pm
DOWNLANDS COLLEGE STRING ORCHESTRA
This fine young orchestra is known for precision and energetic playing. They return to St Luke’s by popular demand.
ADMISSION: FREE


TWILIGHT CONCERT – 5.30pm
Belinda Manwaring – cello
Margaret Cooke – cello
Phillip Gearing – harpsichord
New Zealand cellist Margaret Cooke joins forces with the Manwaring/Gearing duo to perform exciting music of the Baroque.

Ensemble Gombert
Ensemble Gombert directed by John O’Donnell is a nationally recognized choir from Melbourne, specializing in a capella music of the Renaissance. St Luke’s with its fine acoustic is the ideal venue to hear this exciting choir.

THURSDAY 25 SEPTEMBER

LUNCHTIME CONCERT – 12.30pm
Paul Hendon – jazz clarinet
Swing to playing of Paul Hendon and his jazz ensemble as they perform music to tap your toes by.
